DESCRIPTION:POLIS\, in collaboration with the Von Hügel Institute and the
Cambridge Migration Research Network\, cordially invites you to a two-day
workshop European Migration and Refugee Crisis: Contested Politics of Soc
ial Integration and Identity on Thu 23rd June 3.45pm to 6.30pm\, and Fri 2
 4th June 9am to 5.30pm.\n\nPlace: Garden Room\, St Edmund's College\, Moun
 t Pleasant\, Cambridge (Thursday)\, and POLIS\, ARB\, Cambridge (Friday)\n
\nThe workshop will discuss refugee and migration politics with focus on i
 dentity\, politics\, religion\, nation\, racism\, political attitudes and
gender in the framework of European national policies. The workshop starts
from the assumption that the worldwide refugee crisis signifies a histori
cal watershed\; it concerns European identity and politics in a new way. T
he EU member countries are divided by disagreement upon migration and refu
gee politics\, whether in political\, economic\, social or moral terms. Th
is raises the question of how the recent developments\, debates and reacti
ons in Europe can be understood. The aim of the workshop is to carve out k
ey characteristic and conditions of this problem\, and to identify central
areas of necessary research with regard to the politics of integration an
d identity. The programme also features discussion about the links between
the UK referendum on EU membership and migration issues and refugee crisi
s.\nThe workshop is open to the public. However\, as places are limited fo
r Friday\, registration is necessary. Please confirm your attendance with
Vlado Kmec vk287@cam.ac.uk by June 16. [For Friday only\; no registration
required for Thursday].\n\nThe workshop is supported by the DAAD Cambridge
Research Hub with funds from the German Federal Foreign Office (FFO).\n\n
