DESCRIPTION:With its strong track record and outstanding cost-effectivenes
s\, the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI) has been ranked by GiveWe
ll as #2 most recommended charity in the world. SCI is also recommended as
a top charity by Giving What We Can.\n\nSchistosomiasis is a parasitic wo
rm disease that leads to chronic ill-health and affects more than 200 mill
ion people in developing countries\, 85 % of them in sub-Saharan Africa. A
pproximately 600 million people are at risk of contracting schistosomiasis
because they live in tropical regions where water supply and sanitation a
re inadequate or non-existent.\n\nEvidence shows that deworming cheaply an
d effectively improves health\, and – perhaps surprisingly – is one of
the most effective ways of increasing school attendance. And the treatmen
t comes at less than 50p for a pill.\n\nJoin us for a talk and a discussio
n with Prof. Fenwick\, the founder and director of SCI. As always\, snacks
  will be provided.
