DESCRIPTION:We are taught reading and writing\, but rarely statistical thi
 nking. Law schools and medical schools have not yet taken sufficient effo
 rts to teach their students how to understand and communicate statistical
  evidence. The result is collective risk illiteracy: many judges\, lawyer
 s\, doctors\, journalists and politicians do not understand statistical e
 vidence and draw wrong conclusions unawares. Focusing on legal and medica
 l evidence\, I will discuss common errors in evaluating evidence and effi
 cient tools that help professionals to overcome these. Risk literacy\, to
 gether with efficient techniques for communicating statistical informatio
 n\, is a necessary precondition for meeting the challenges of modern tech
 nological society.&nbsp\;
