  insight into the pioneering work of at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundat
 ion. Launched in 2000 and said to be the largest transparently operated pr
 ivate foundation in the world\, the the Gates Foundation is a global leade
 r in the efforts to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty.\n\nAs t
 he foundation's European Director\, Dr Anja Langenbucher is deeply involve
 d in this effort. Prior to joining the foundation in 2011\, she also worke
 d in a range of roles for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Develop
 ment (EBRD)\, the World Bank in Washington and the European Commission in 
 Brussels.\n\nThe event will be excellent oppotunity to hear about the majo
 r challenges and opportunities in today's fight against disease worldwide.
  Anja will give a short talk and then take questions on both combatting di
 sease and careers in the development sector.\n\nRefreshments will be provi
