DESCRIPTION:Agencies and organisations around the world are in
creasingly seeking to realise the value embodied i
n their growing data holdings\, including by makin
g data available for research and policy analysis.
While care is being taken to protect confidential
ity in such data releases\, there have been some h
igh profile instances of access to some publicly-r
eleased data being terminated due to re-identifica
tions or risks of re-identification.  \; In
the face of current drivers such as amazing expans
ion in data use scenarios\, as well as growing pub
lic concern for privacy\, there is a critical need
for increased sophistication in planning and desc
ribing confidentiality protection. One such approa
ch is the Five Safes framework.
