DESCRIPTION:Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive human malignan
ices with high lethality and poor prognosis. A promising approach for targ
eted optimisation of treatment of pancreatic cancer for a specific individ
ual is the ex vivo modelling of an individual's response to treatment. Tis
sue engineering offers a lot of potential on that direction. With the use
of appropriate biomaterials and micro-architecture one can mimic tissue el
ements in a reproducible and low cost way\, allowing ex vivo studies of st
andard and alternative treatments as well as the collection of important p
atient specific biological information related to treatment response. This
talk is focusing on the application of different types of biomaterials an
d structures for screening of pancreatic cancer.
