DESCRIPTION:There is growing evidence that many of the deleterious process
 es of ageing may be modulatable by simple chemical compounds.  A wide vari
 ety of polyphenolic natural products\, most notably resveratrol\, have bee
 n identified as potential leads for anti-degenerative therapeutics. The co
 mplexity of activities of these compounds led us to develop simple\, robus
 t syntheses to produce a designed panel of compounds\, termed “Resveralo
 gues”\, to be used in the first rational\, multidimensional SAR study of
  stilbenes. We have evaluated this panel to determine the specific structu
 ral features that underpin differential bioactivities.  Available compound
 s\, synthetic methods and SAR will be presented.
