DESCRIPTION:The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge will delive
r the inaugural Kate Pretty Lecture at 5.30pm on Friday 17 February 2017 a
t Homerton College.\nThe Lecture is open to all\; however you must registe
r via our website to attend - https://www.homerton.cam.ac.uk/KPL\n\nAs it
prepares for a change of leadership\, the University of Cambridge is in a
uniquely strong position. It is more diverse than ever before. Its levels
of engagement –local\, national\, global—are unprecedented. It is fina
ncially resilient. All of which allows it to fully realise its mission: to
contribute to society through the pursuit of education\, learning\, and r
esearch at the highest international levels of excellence.\n\nThe challeng
es Cambridge faces\, however\, are formidable. Not least of them will be t
he question of how to continue thriving despite the UK’s exit from the E
uropean Union. At a time when public trust in experts is allegedly eroded\
, what is the role of an institution whose mission is to create knowledge
and share expertise? How can the University of Cambridge help the city and
the region meet the challenges of economic growth? And what impact might
the proposed transformations of the higher education landscape have on the
University’s ability to deliver world-leading teaching and research?\n\
nProfessor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz FRS\, the University of Cambridge’s 34
5th Vice-Chancellor\, will address these issues as he delivers Homerton Co
llege’s inaugural Kate Pretty Lecture on "The Cambridge of Tomorrow".\n\
nThe lecture will be followed by a canapé reception for all attendees. Pa
rking will be available in the Visitors' Car Park at the end of Harrison D
 rive.\n
