DESCRIPTION: The Binet-Legendre metric is a canonical  Riemannian metric 
 associated to\na given metric  on a given manifold\; it has a well contro
 lled behavior under  isometries and  \nconformal  transformations  tha
 t   makes  it  an\nefficient  tool to solve problems in Finsler geomet
 ry by reducing them to their Riemannian\ncounterpart. \nIn this talk I wi
 ll survey some recent applications of the Binet-Legendre metrics to solve 
 some\nspecific Finslerian problems
