      <br></span><span>&nbsp\;<br>I will give a brief introduction to prepr
 ojective algebras and higher  preprojective algebras\, using examples.  Th
 en I will explain some  results about certain higher preprojective algebra
 s that were obtained  in joint work with Osamu Iyama\, including results o
 n periodicity and  descriptions of these algebras as (higher) Jacobi algeb
 ras of quivers  with potential.  Finally I will explain how\, in simple ca
 ses\, one can  define higher zigzag algebras\, generalizing certain algebr
 as studied by  Huefrano and Khovanov which appear widely in geometry and r
 epresentation  theory.  As in the classical case\, one finds interesting r
 elations  between spherical twists on the derived categories of these alge
 bras.</span>
