DESCRIPTION:I will first review the conjectured instability of AdS spaceti
 me in classical general relativity. I will then describe a recent breakthr
 ough on this problem which was just very recently obtained here in Cambrid
 ge by a graduate student\, Georgios Moschidis\, who has proven this instab
 ility in the setting of the Einstein-null dust system under spherical symm
 etry\, with an additional inner mirror. This is the simplest setting where
  the problem can be posed and gives hope that a definitive resolution of t
 he conjecture will be obtained.
