npresented by Wally Broecker (Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory\, Columbia
University)\n\nA case will be made that the only times ocean storage of CO
2 occurred was during 20kyr duration cold episodes (MIS 2\, 4\, 6…). Thi
s storage was caused either by Atlantic stratification or iron fertilizati
on. In either case\, these downward ‘bumps’ were temporary. Once the f
orcing was removed the CO2 was returned to the atmosphere. These ‘bumps
’ modulate a downward ‘ramp’ in atmospheric CO2 content. My tentativ
e conclusion is that they are the result of CO2 input starvation rather th
 an ocean storage
