DESCRIPTION:Orthogonal free quantum groups have been extensive
ly studied in the past two decades from the operat
or algebraic point of view\, and were shown to sha
re many analytical properties with the ordinary fr
ee groups. In a recent preprint with Michael Brann
an\, we prove that the associated von Neumann alge
bras are strongly 1-bounded in the sense of Jung.
In particular\, they are not isomorphic to free gr
oup factors. This result is obtained by establishi
ng a spectral regularity result for the edge rever
sing operator on the associated quantum Cayley tre
e\, \;and combining this result with a recent
free entropy dimension rank theorem of Jung and Sh
lyakhtenko.
