DESCRIPTION:I will discuss a new class of jet observables\, which are desi
gned to characterize both fractal and scale-dependent contributions to the
distribution of hadrons within the jet. These infrared safe observables\,
which we name Extended Fractal Observables (EFOs)\, have been applied to
the important problem of distinguishing quark jets from gluon jets. I shal
l summarize evidence from parton shower simulations that the inclusion of
EFOs improves the performance of existing quark gluon discriminators. More
generally\, this method of studying jet substructure is a new approach\,
and I shall discuss other possible applications in particle physics.
