DESCRIPTION:The WZW model in physics naturally leads to a study of twisted
K-theory for compact Lie groups\, which has been studied by Moore-Maldace
 na-Seiberg\, Hopkins\, Braun\, and Douglas.&nbsp\; We re-examine a few asp
ects of this subject.&nbsp\; For example\, what is the map on H^3 induced
by a covering of compact simple Lie groups?&nbsp\; The result is complicat
ed and quite surprising.&nbsp\; Also\, what can we learn about twisted K-t
heory from the connection between Langlands duality and T-duality\, studie
d by Daenzer-Van Erp and Bunke-Nikolaus?&nbsp\; Again\, the result is rath
er surprising.&nbsp\; This is joint work with Mathai Varghese. <br><br><b
