DESCRIPTION:The Landau collision integral is an accurate model for the sma
ll-angle dominated Coulomb collisions in fusion plasmas. We investigate a
high order accurate\, fully conservative\, finite element discretization o
f the nonlinear multi-species Landau integral with adaptive mesh refinemen
t using the PETSc library (www.mcs.anl.gov/petsc [1]). We present algorith
ms and techniques that efficiently utilize emerging architectures by minim
izing memory movement and being amenable to vector processing. We present
performance results on the Second Generation Intel Xeon Phi\, Knights Land
 ing\, processor.
