DESCRIPTION:Parties providing health services must have access to relevant
patient\ndata. Data sharing is common\, as healthcare environments involv
 e the\ncollaboration of care providers\, often across organisational\nstru
ctures. Whilst data availability is crucial to the care process\, the conf
idential nature of medical information means that data must also be protec
ted. To assist in the data management concerns of distributed health syste
 ms\, this presentation details middleware\, built upon publish-subscribe m
echanisms\, for controlling data in a multi-domain care environment. Despi
te our focus on home healthcare\, I will also provide an overview of the c
urrent state of the NHS IT programme\, drawing some parallels in requireme
 nts.
