DESCRIPTION:The prison population in the UK\, and in many other countries 
 worldwide\, is at its highest level in history. An important but neglected
  question that arises from this is whether children are harmed by parental
  imprisonment. Findings from 4 years of research will be summarised. A cro
 ss-national comparison between England and Sweden shows that more liberal 
 social and prison policies might protect children following parental impri
 sonment.\n
