DESCRIPTION:The Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DTWT) is a relatively
new signal processing tool that has the property of being largely invaria
nt to subsample shifts in the signal being transformed. This property is p
articularly useful in many image processing applications. The presentation
will briefly discuss two projects which use the DTWT to provide improved
solutions to problems in the areas of medical image registration and video
watermarking.\n\n\nBio:\n\nDr Mark Pickering is a Senior Lecturer with th
e School of Electrical Engineering\, The University of New South Wales\, a
t the Australian Defence Force Academy. Since joining the University of Ne
w South Wales\, he has lectured in a range of subjects including analogue
communications techniques\, and digital image processing. He has been acti
vely involved in the development of the recent MPEG international standard
s for audio-visual communications. Mark holds Bachelor\, Masters and Docto
r of Philosophy degrees in electrical engineering and is the author of ove
r 70 technical articles on aspects of image and video signal processing.\n
