DESCRIPTION:I shall present an overview of T-duality symmetric formalisms
in which the dimension of target space is doubled and the sigma model supp
lemented with constraints. In particular I shall describe the equations t
hat the background fields must satisfy. These are calculated by demandin
g the vanishing of the beta-functionals of the sigma model couplings in th
e doubled target space. I will demonstrate that the Weyl divergences for
the duality symmetric string are equivalent to those of the standard sigma
model and that the full beta-functionals are naturally interpreted as the
field equations for a dimensionally reduced and O(d\,d) invariant space t
 ime action.
