DESCRIPTION:By calculating the electronic entropy\, superfluid density\, t
hermoelectric power and spin susceptibility from ARPES derived energy-mome
ntum dispersions we establish overall consistency among these techniques.
\nIn light of these calculations the experimental data reveals the approac
h of the Fermi level to a van Hove singularity in the overdoped regime\, t
hereby forcing a revision of theories based on the so-called ‘van Hove s
cenario’.\nComparison of the Tc phase diagram with the density of states
at the Fermi level allows us to propose a universal pairing potential tha
t reproduces both the doping dependence of Tc\, as well as the variation i
n Tc\,max between different species of cuprate superconductors.\n
