DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge University German Society warmly invites to our 
 second Speakers Event of Michaelmas Term! \n\nChristoph Lieben-Seutter is 
 the General and Artistic Director of the historic Laeiszhalle and the Elbp
 hilharmonie Hamburg. His responsibilities include directing the artistic c
 ontent of both venues. \n\nLieben-Seutter was born in Vienna in 1964. Afte
 r leaving school\, he worked in the computer industry for a number of year
 s. In 1988\, he was hired by Alexander Pereira as Management Assistant at 
 the Vienna Konzerthaus\, where he subsequently became Chief Operating Offi
 cer in 1991. In 1993\, when Pereira left to become the Director of Zurich 
 Opera House\, Lieben-Seutter followed him as his Assistant\, before being 
 asked back to Vienna in 1996 to become Director of the Konzerthaus and the
  Wien Modern Festival. For the next eleven years\, Lieben-Seutter was resp
 onsible for 450 events per season. He was able to engage new audience segm
 ents and helped the Vienna Konzerthaus to acquire a lasting reputation as 
 one of the leading international organisations for classical concerts. \n\
 nIn September 2007\, Lieben-Seutter accepted the new position of General a
 nd Artistic Director of the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle Hamburg. He ov
 ersaw the preparations leading up to the opening of the Elbphilharmonie Ha
 mburg in January 2017. Now entering his eleventh season as General and Art
 istic Director of both venues\, Lieben-Seutter’s contract has been exten
 ded until summer 2021. He is also a member of the board of the Gustav Mahl
 er Youth Orchestra.\n\nAt our event\, Lieben-Seutter will give a talk abou
 t: 'Hamburg Reimagined: How the Elbphilharmonie Transformed the Merchant's
  City into a Cultural Top Destination'\n\nThere will also be time for ques
 tions. Please note that the event will be held in English. All welcome! \n
