inate? - Prof. Eric Bittner\, Univ. of Houston

DESCRIPTION:Today's seminar will focus entirely upon quantum condensed pha
se dynamics\, specifically we ask "How do\nnuclear motions tune and contro
l the electronic states before\, during\, and following a quantum transiti
on?" I will discuss our recent work in developing both approximate non-M
arkovian and time-local theories for computing transition rates and decohe
rence envelopes as well as the use of numerically exact approaches for sol
ving the time-dependent Schrodinger eq in systems with up to 30 vibrationa
l degrees of freedom and 3 electronic states. We have applied these techni
ques to a number of systems\, most recently to the TFB:F8BT polymer hetero
junction. I will comment briefly upon the effect of stacking on the electr
on transfer rates\nbetween polymers\, the role of intermediate (dark) exci
plex states\, and the role of slow vs. fast nuclear motions in determining
  the transfer dynamics.
