DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Rolls-Royce plc is a world-leading provider of power
systems and services. Essential to Rolls-Royce's continuing business succ
ess is closer integration of new product design\, new service design and t
he experience gained from the operation of existing products and services
in the field. As part of the IPAS project (www.3worlds.org)\, the speaker
has been working with Rolls-Royce\, Civil Aerospace to model and simulate
the earliest stages of the design process for civil jet engines and thereb
y develop and evaluate process changes in order to include service conside
rations from the start. In this seminar the speaker will present the resul
ts of the work done to date and his observations on modelling and simulati
ng complex design processes and the tools required to do this. The present
ation will include a demonstration of the P3 Applied Signposting software
(www-edc.eng.cam.ac.uk/p3/)\, which is being developed within the EDC and
is the modelling and simulation tool used in this project.
