DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, two critical aspects related to the rea
lization of unconventional electronic devices will be discussed. First\, s
ynthetic and fabrication approaches to new organic\, inorganic\, and hybri
d materials are presented. The issues covered are: a. Rational design\, re
 alization\, and understanding of new electrically-active high-mobility p-
and n-type organic semiconductors. b. Development of new solution phase pr
ocesses for thin-film deposition of inorganic/hybrid semiconductors. c. De
velopment of new solution processable dielectrics exhibiting low leakage a
nd high breakdown fields. The combinations of these materials set allow th
e fabrication of flexible/transparent electronic circuits and display exhi
biting complementary properties compared to current-generation devices. In
the second part of this presentation\, the importance of organic transist
or semiconductor-dielectric interface\, playing a critical role in influen
cing charge transport\, is highlighted. In this study\, new insights into
how the bulk/surface viscoelastic properties of the gate polymeric dielect
ric modulates the thin-film growth mode\, microstructure\, and transistor
performance of pentacene (a benchmark organic semiconductor) films are dis
 cussed.
