DESCRIPTION:We review a few applications of large deformation diffeomorphi
 c metric mapping and some of its variants\, within a sub-Riemannian framew
 ork in diffeomorphism groups and shape spaces. After describing the basic 
 principles\, the talk will focus on applications in the construction of la
 minar coordinates in the cortical ribbon\, on the quantification of fine m
 otor tasks in children through letter tracing and on the statistical estim
 ation of a changepoint in brain shape evolution for Alzheimer&rsquo\;s dis
 ease.
