DESCRIPTION:Glass is a ubiquitous material in buildings and the architectu
ral trends for large area glazing and for 'structural glass' applications
is driving the growth in this sector. However\, the process of quantifying
and mitigating the risk of human injury from glass related injuries\, par
ticularly from extreme loading events\, presents major challenges for the
building industry. The seminar will illustrate the limitations of industry
-standard methodologies and will describe how the recent advances in exper
imental and computational techniques may be lead to an improved post-fract
 ure assessment.
