SPL - New statistical physics in living matter: non equilibrium states under adaptive control

I will give in this mini-course an introduction to large deviation theory and its applications in statistical physics. I will start in lecture 1 with the basics of the theory as applied to sums of random variables and will then use lectures 2 and 3 to cover applications related to Markov processes and nonequilibrium systems. The applications to cover will depend on the audience and, time permitting, I might present some numerical techniques for simulating large deviations and rare events in general.
