Abstract
When I set up 55 years ago my major goal was to understand how insulin stimulated the synthesis of glycogen and other metabolic events, which was at that time was largely a ‘black box’. Eventually, when the outlines were clarified 25 years later, I began to search for another black box to work on, which led me to study how the innate immune system is regulated by the interplay between protein phosphorylation and protein ubiquitylation. In theΒ talk I will focus on how my recent studies on the role of ubiquitylation in regulating immunity have unexpectedly led me to return to the field of glycogen metabolism where my career began.
