Moduli Spaces

We show that the moduli space of $U^*(2n)$-Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface is connected. We adopt the Morse-theoretic approach pioneered by Hitchin, and which has already been applied for several other groups, to reduce our problem to the study of connectedness of certain subvarieties of the moduli space. Joint work with O. Garca-Prada.
