Abstract
My research investigate how small ligands interact with protein receptors and cell membranes, using as model systems, respectively, the interaction between general anaesthetic (GA) molecules and the gamma-butyric amino acid (GABA) type A receptor, and that between GA and phospholipids. In this project, I apply theoretical methods such as molecular modelling and molecular dynamics, and experimental methods such as neutron reflectometry and Brewster angle microscopy, to define the factors which control these ligand-receptor interactions.
