Abstract
The high strain-rate behaviour of multi-component systems is often dominated by mediation at material interfaces. Towards further understanding the role of these, results will be presented from a series of plate impact experiments focussed on spatially resolved measurements across aluminium – stainless steel interfaces. The dynamic response at both the initiation of sliding and over extended timescales will be considered, utilising a line-VISAR diagnostic and metallographic techniques respectively.
